Hello William
thanks for your greeting
I have been in South Korea - just about.. like kimchi now!
for all but 7 months
I am quite happy in my High School- its quite a bit quieter than some of the large schools in the UK (near Cheongju- Chungbuk-do you know?)
I worked at the famous Ridings in Halifax UK
which had around 25 teachers walk out in 1996 because the pupils were "unteachable-

I have also worked in special schools, incl children
in the autistic spectrum.
I hope to add more to this group in the next week - still "crooked with my right ankle ligaments
I did eleven days ago ! so only 5 x 30 mins conversation for me this week

...please call me JAMES or JIM
my parents kindly gave me their grandparents names for my middle names
!

My experience thus far has only been in private language schools, which is really a different teaching / learning environment altogether, in some ways for the better, some for the worse. I do agree however, that there is definitely change afoot in China's classrooms. New teachers moving into the system generally have better English and teaching skills and are attempting to address the some of the current problems in EFL classes in Chinese schools.
There is still far too much focus on exams and scores (which teacher salaries are sometimes pegged to)and this will take time to change, as will the changes in methodology - for classrooms and teacher training.
